Brought up by his grandfather, Nadamuni, he renounced his kingship of the Pandya kingdom which came his way because of his scholarship, and spent his days in the service of Lord Ranganatha at Srirangam. Ramanuja's propagation of Visishtadvaita philosophy was greatly inspired by the teachings and vision of Yamunacharya, who named Ramanuja as his successor to the Acharyahood of Sri Vaishnavas.
